A reshuffle has begun between teams in the women’s professional volleyball league, which ended the last season prematurely due to the Covid-19 crisis. Teams began replacing their coaches, with Heungguk Life Insurance being the first to do so. The team announced on Friday that it has appointed Kwon Soon-chan, former coach of the KB Car Insurance men’s team, as its new coach. The terms of his contract are unknown.

Kwon, a graduate of SungKyunKwan University, played for Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and coached for Woori Capital and Korean Air, before coaching KB Car Insurance for three years from 2017.

Heungguk ended his eight-year partnership with coach Park Mi-hee with the expiration of his contract. “We judged that Coach Kwon, a gentle but charismatic leader and role model, would be the best choice to enhance the reputation of our team,” the team announced. “I will continue the honorable tradition of winning the combined championships up to four times,” Kwon said. “I will take the lead myself to make sure the players and coaching staff form a strong unit.” The team also decided the same day to keep the setter Kim Da-sol (25) who became a free agent. She signed a three-year contract with Heungguk, which will pay her 110 million won (about $90,300) in annual salary, plus 10 million won ($8,200) as an option.

Kim Jong Min (48), Hyundai Engineering & Construction coach Kang Seong-hyeong and Industrial Bank of Korea coach Kim Ho-cheol (67) moved to the women’s league. on the men’s side, more than half of the seven teams in the women’s league were filled with coaches from men’s teams.
